Melissa “Mel” McCommon is a freelance illustrator with over a decade of experience in comics, conventions, and self-publishing. Besides her baby “Epic Chaos!”, Melissa has also done work for comic companies, most notably providing coloring assistance for JY Press’ middle grade graphic novels; the Eisner nominated “Awkward”, “Brave”, Eisner nominated “Crush”, “Diary”, and "The Weirn Books Vol. 1 Be Wary of the Silent Woods", all written and drawn by Svetlana Chmakova (one of Melissa’s favorite artists).

Melissa, a California native now living in Massachusetts, spends most of her days working on comics in some fashion— let it be writing, drawing, coloring, planning, or even reading comics as part of fun research to improve her own comics.

Besides comics, Melissa enjoys fruity teas, sweets, art supplies, Dungeons and Dragons, and cats— she really wants to meet your cat. She doesn’t have a cat, but her roommate's cat Artemis (we call her “Arty”) has been designated honorary feline niece/art assistant, and does her job well. Melissa has a crested gecko named Pita, who has no interest in comics what-so-ever— and would rather stay in her terrarium as a desk ornament than be acknowledged.
